Mid-air panic for a star-studded flight! Andrew Garfield and other celebrities stranded in Albuquerque after emergency landing
A smoky odor forces a Delta flight carrying several stars to divert

A routine flight to New York turned into an unexpected Albuquerque adventure for Andrew Garfield, Owen Thiele, Nick Robinson and several other familiar faces on Wednesday, September 9.
Delta Flight 958 was traveling from Los Angeles to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport when the crew reported an unusual smoky or electrical odor.
The Boeing 767 was subsequently diverted to Albuquerque International Sunport, where it landed safely. Delta later apologized to passengers and said its teams were working to get everyone to their intended destinations.
The unexpected diversion affected several celebrities traveling on the flight, including actor and singer Mark Ambor and Love Island USA personality Dylan Wrona.
While the situation could easily have become a frustrating ordeal, Thiele managed to find plenty of humor in the unusual circumstances.
The Adults star documented the experience on Instagram, revealing that Garfield and Robinson were among his fellow passengers.
“Andrew Garfield on my flight,” Thiele captioned his selfie. “If plane went down it would’ve said Andrew Garfield and others. Nick Robinson here too. Andrew Garfield, Nick Robinson and others.”
Rather than spending the entire delay sitting around the airport, Thiele soon began connecting with other stranded passengers.
An unexpected celebrity friendship forms
Thiele shared pictures with his newly formed group and explained that they’d decided to leave the airport together for a trip to a nearby Dave & Buster’s. The actor joked that he was riding in a car with nine people he’d never met before and was even stuck in the trunk.
The adventure didn’t end there. After returning to the airport, the group learned that another aircraft might be available to continue their journey to New York. However, there was another complication when they were told the replacement plane could have fewer seats.
While waiting for further information, the group ordered food from P.F. Chang’s. Thiele then realized they’d have to go through security again to retrieve the delivery, adding another layer of chaos to the evening. To make matters even more amusing, the order they received wasn’t quite what they’d expected.
A fortune cookie provided the perfect punchline. Thiele discovered a message predicting, “a thrilling new experience is at your fingertips,” which he shared with his followers with an amused reaction.
Fans quickly connected the situation to Thiele’s character Anton from Adults, who’s portrayed as someone who easily forms friendships with strangers. Social media users joked that Thiele was essentially behaving like Anton in real life.
Meanwhile, Wrona shared a photo with Garfield from the airport as they waited for another plane, suggesting that their journey was finally back on track.
Eventually, the passengers continued on to New York. What began as an emergency diversion ultimately became an unforgettable celebrity travel story, and an unlikely opportunity for a few strangers to become friends.
