S andra Bullock decided to share some details of those years and described the process she went through alongside the photographer, who died in August 2023.

Three years after the death of Bryan Randall , her partner for eight years, the Hollywood star shared how she privately faced the illness that ended the photographer’s life and how the grieving began long before his death.

A secret she kept for years

Bullock spoke about how difficult it was to keep silent. Randall had been diagnosed with ALS and, as Bullock explained, it was he himself who asked her to keep the illness private. She respected his decision, even though that meant spending a large part of the process away from public exposure and with very few people knowing the situation.

Randall asked Sandra not to let his illness become known, and she decided to respect his wish, even as the circumstances grew more complicated.

That meant that many people outside her closest circle were unaware of what the family was going through. The actress had to continue with her public life while, in private, the illness was taking up more and more space.

The pandemic made everything more difficult. The actress described a period marked by isolation and by the need to organize family life around Randall's needs.

“I started crying for Bryan four years earlier”

Bullock explained that she began saying goodbye to Randall years before he died. The illness had progressed to the point of profoundly altering his daily life and the relationship they had built together.

“My person was gone long before his body left,” said the actress. The phrase sums up how she experienced Randall’s decline: although he was still by her side, Bullock felt that the illness had gradually taken away the person she knew.

That is why, when his death finally came, the pain had several years of anticipation behind it. Bullock had already gone through part of the grieving process while she was still trying to be there for him.

Bryan Randall died at 57 after a three-year battle with ALS. His family had asked for privacy, and Bullock upheld that decision throughout that time.

His recent testimony now sheds light on a part of that story that remained out of the spotlight. More than speaking only about the death of Randall, Bullock recounted what it was like to lose him little by little while he was still by her side. A farewell that, for her, began years before that day in August 2023.

Now she enjoys her days with family, friends, and work while leaving her mark on social media.
