New details have emerged following the tragic death of Chad Lowe and Kim Painter’s 13-year-old daughter, Fiona Hepler Lowe , who died on Sept. 29.

According to records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner reviewed by multiple outlets, Fiona died at a hospital. The case remains open, and officials haven’t publicly disclosed a cause of death or additional circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The latest information provides a clearer timeline but leaves several questions unanswered as Fiona’s family and community continue to grieve. Representatives for Chad Lowe haven’t publicly commented on the newly released medical examiner information.

The Lowe-Painter family confirmed Fiona’s death in a heartbreaking statement shared with several outlets. They remembered the teenager as “a loving young girl” who was smart, creative and passionate about dancing.

“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance,” read the statement.

“She was adored by her sisters, and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives.

“Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time.”

Chad, 58, and Kim, 52, are also parents to daughters Mabel , 17, and Nixie , 10. Fiona was their middle child. Chad , the younger brother of actor Rob Lowe, had previously shared affectionate tributes to Fiona on social media.

In November 2025, he marked her 13th birthday with a photograph and a loving message encouraging his daughter to “keep dancing through life.” The post offered a glimpse into the close relationship between father and daughter.

Fiona remembered by family, friends and school community

Fiona’s death has also deeply affected the school community where she was a student. Parents reportedly received an email from the school principal informing them that a student had died. The message didn’t identify Fiona by name but expressed condolences to the student’s family, friends and teachers.
