Savannah James , LeBron James' wife, once again found herself at the center of a conversation on social media after her best friend and business partner, April McDaniel , explained how they handle the financial difference between them: when they travel together, they do not necessarily fly in the same class on the plane .

The topic came up during an appearance by both of them on Mental Wealth. There they talked about money, business, and a friendship of more than 15 years that also ended up becoming a business partnership. It was McDaniel who put on the table a reality that both of them know perfectly well. “We talk a lot about this because there are two different lifestyles. We’re not naive about that”, she explained.

Two friends, two economic realities

Savannah and April are not just friends. Together they host Everybody’s Crazy, a podcast they funded with their own money during its first two years, and now they are bringing their different projects together under Signed, the company they created together.

"The difference also shows up when they organize their trips. “I don't feel the need to be in first class because that's not in my budget”, explained McDaniel . Her words once again generated comments on social media.

April is the one who best explains the philosophy of the relationship: she does not try to live according to Savannah's wealth, nor does she expect her friend to finance that difference.

Separately, both have also developed their own businesses. McDaniel is the founder of the creative agency Crown + Conquer , while Savannah has developed projects such as Reframe Beauty . In the case of the James family, moreover, the financial dimension is different: Forbes estimates LeBron James's fortune at 1.4 billion dollars .

McDaniel explained that this difference has never been a secret between them and that it even affects the way they organize some plans.

“If Savannah suggests a trip, for example, they do it far enough in advance so April can include it in her budget. ‘We don’t show up at Fashion Week from one week to the next’, she explained.

The same thing happens when they buy plane tickets. “If we're going on the same trip, I don't feel the need to be in first class because that's not in my budget”, McDaniel said.

The situation had already come up on their own podcast. Recalling a trip to Japan, April said that Savannah traveled first class while she flew business . The difference sparked comments among some followers, who wondered why Savannah had not paid the difference so that her friend could travel in the same cabin.

"April, however, saw no problem. “People had so much to say because I wasn’t in first class and Savannah didn’t buy me a ticket. I think it’s crazy”, she said while recalling the reaction that story sparked.

During their conversation with Boardroom, they revisited that experience. McDaniel said that, despite being in different cabins, she ended up moving closer to Savannah’s seat and they spent part of the flight watching a movie together. For them, the difference in tickets had never been the conflict that some followers interpreted from the outside.

If I fly first, my friend does too

The statements reopened the debate on social media . Some users questioned Savannah for not paying for her friend's first-class ticket.

“She’s not obligated, of course, but if I fly first class, my friend does too,” commented one user.

“Everyone does what they want, but if my family is worth billions, the least I could do is buy my best friend a first-class ticket” , wrote another.

Savannah , for her part, explained that one of the aspects she values most in her friendships is that her friends do not expect her to financially support others because of her family's position. “My friends are very respectful of my situation”, she stated, before pointing out that when they make plans together, her friends know that she does not automatically have the responsibility to pay for them.

For McDaniel, maintaining her financial independence is part of the relationship she built with Savannah over 15 years. What for both of them is a way of respecting each other’s budget and autonomy ended up turning into a debate on social media about how much financial differences should influence a friendship.
