Who is ColdheartedAC? The rapper now facing a federal indictment involving millions of dollars
His name began making headlines for a very different reason than the music he had been building over the past several years.
Some stories can change direction in a matter of days, and ColdheartedAC’s is one of them. The rapper was arrested in California and is now facing a federal indictment that links him, along with two other people, to an alleged scheme involving stolen checks.
But before becoming the subject of a federal case, AC had a different story. He was an independent artist who had spent years trying to carve out a place for himself in rap , building his career under a name that is now appearing in headlines for entirely different reasons.
Who is behind ColdheartedAC?
Behind the stage name is Ada William Obayuwana, 31, a resident of Quartz Hill, California, a community north of Los Angeles . In music, he has used the names ColdheartedAC and AC, identities under which he developed his various projects.
His work falls within rap and hip-hop, and over the past several years, he released different singles on digital platforms. They include BUSY BODY, CORSA MODE, ChiAngeles and DESTINED .
At least until now, he was not one of the genre’s major commercial names. His path was more closely tied to the independent scene and to gradually building a larger audience.
That pursuit also took him beyond California. In 2022, he visited SiriusXM Studios in New York , showing that his musical activity extended beyond his online releases.
That path now appears to have taken an unexpected turn, as he faces a 25-count indictment filed by a federal grand jury alongside two other people .
According to prosecutors, the group allegedly participated in obtaining and attempting to cash checks that were reportedly stolen and belonged to the government, businesses and individuals.
The amount identified by authorities exceeds $8.1 million .
The investigation covers events that prosecutors say allegedly took place between April 2022 and December 2023.
For now, it remains unclear how the case will unfold. However, the investigation is ongoing and could bring additional developments in the coming days.
