World’s highest-IQ man says he has concluded ‘God is real’

Scientists and psychologists caution that intelligence alone does not determine the validity of a claim about religion

The centuries-old debate over the existence of God has attracted philosophers, theologians and scientists from virtually every era. Now, one man widely recognized for possessing an exceptionally high IQ is adding his voice to the conversation.

YoungHoon Kim, a South Korean scientist who has been recognized by organizations including the Giga Society for achieving an extraordinarily high IQ score, recently drew attention after posting a series of statements on social media declaring his belief in God, Jesus and the Bible. In one post shared on X, Kim wrote: " As the world's highest IQ record holder, I finally concluded that God is real, Jesus is real, and the Bible is real. 100%."

In a separate video, he appeared wearing a cross necklace and stated, "Jesus is the answer. He is coming soon. 100%." The comments generated a discussion among both religious communities and those interested in the intersection of science and faith.

Intelligence and belief are not the same thing

Kim's remarks have attracted attention partly because of his reported IQ score of 276, a figure that would place him far above the range typically associated with giftedness. For comparison, an IQ score of around 100 is generally considered average, while scores above 140 are often categorized as exceptionally high.

Yet scientists and psychologists caution that intelligence alone does not determine the validity of a claim about religion, philosophy or metaphysics. Questions surrounding God's existence are not scientific questions in the traditional sense because they cannot currently be tested or falsified through experiments.

As a result, beliefs about God are often shaped by personal experiences, philosophical arguments, cultural backgrounds and theological traditions rather than IQ scores. In other words, Kim's statements are significant because of who made them, but they remain personal conclusions rather than scientific findings.

A long-standing interest in theology

Kim's recent comments are not a sudden departure from his previous views. Over the years, he has frequently spoken about Christianity and the role faith plays in his life. He has previously posted statements expressing belief in Jesus and has described Christianity as central to his worldview.

His interest in religion extends beyond personal belief. Kim also holds a theology degree from Yonsei University in Seoul and has referred to theology as "the ultimate discipline of all fields of study." That educational background may help explain why he often approaches questions of faith through both philosophical and intellectual lenses.

Kim has also discussed the possibility of an afterlife, arguing that certain ideas from quantum physics and consciousness studies can be viewed as compatible with religious concepts. In previous remarks, he suggested that if reality is part of a larger framework than humans currently understand, death might represent a transition rather than an ending.

Such ideas are not uncommon among thinkers exploring the relationship between science and spirituality. However, they remain speculative and are not considered established scientific conclusions. Many physicists caution that concepts from quantum mechanics are frequently invoked in discussions of consciousness and religion without direct experimental evidence linking them to life after death or supernatural phenomena.
