Jackson Johnson, personal trainer: "You’re not going to get defined abs just by doing a good core routine..."
Many people make the mistake of believing that if they do a good ab routine, they will define it

One of the crucial parts of a physical transformation and in almost any training is the core area. This area is fundamental because it supports the rest of the body and provides guidance to the other areas. Having a strong core is an extremely important matter, and we must focus on it. However, many people also want to have defined abs and do exercises thinking they will achieve this through their core routine. But, for personal trainer Jackson Johnson, this would not be so simple, and other types of training would be needed to reduce abdominal fat and have a flat and strong stomach.
The ab routine, yes, but not only that
The cited trainer mentions that abdominal routines are necessary and, at times, we must incorporate those that work the core deeply. However, he mentions that doing only that (unless you have heart problems) is useless.
Many people believe that because they do a daily ab routine they will achieve defined abs; however, this is a very widespread lie. The first thing that must be done is to reduce abdominal fat, usually by losing weight in a healthy way and as long as it is necessary in your case.
However, it is also important that we consider that the abdomen is not like other muscles , such as the biceps, for example, which are trained in the gym with weights and grow. The abdomen is not like that, since they are beneath the abdominal fat and come to light when this weight is lost . Therefore, we must be aware that they are a visual separation and that their transformation is going to be slow and defined.
Having very defined abs, is it just training?
Many women want a defined abdomen and look for it in the gym; however, the trainer mentions that it can be achieved (or not) for two different reasons. One, and perhaps the main one, is genetics ; if you are not predisposed to having it defined, it will be very complex for you to ever have it, although it can always improve.
The second and fundamental issue for having defined abs is that you are in a calorie deficit , which means that you need to eat fewer calories than your body uses and burns on a day-to-day basis for a long time. For that reason, it is important not to obsess over having hyper-defined abs; rather, we should take care of ourselves, keep our core strong, and reduce abdominal fat more for health than for aesthetics.
