Steven Soderbergh to help finish 'The Batman Part II' as Matt Reeves guides the final shoot remotely

The next chapter of Robert Pattinson’s Batman saga has taken an unexpected turn behind the camera. Steven Soderbergh, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind Traffic and Ocean’s Eleven , has offered to help Matt Reeves complete the final weeks of principal photography on The Batman Part II , according to Deadline. Reeves stepped away from the set to attend to a family matter.

The reported arrangement is a collaboration, not a formal announcement that Soderbergh is replacing Reeves . Deadline says the two will work closely while Soderbergh handles filming on set and Reeves stays involved remotely. Reeves is expected to return for postproduction when he is ready. The plan is to shoot new footage that fits seamlessly with the material already filmed.

A rare handoff built around Reeves’ vision

Soderbergh praised Reeves’ original film as “intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent.” His stated goal is to help create footage that fits what Reeves has already shot, allowing the writer-director to finish the film. The distinction matters: this report describes a filmmaker stepping in to help during a difficult stretch, with Reeves still guiding the project.

The production pause was confirmed earlier this month. Warner Bros. and DC Studios said Reeves had their full support as he focused on a family matter. On Oct. 11, Pattinson also acknowledged the pause, saying the team would “figure it all out” after a short break. Neither the studio’s public statement nor Pattinson’s comments confirmed Soderbergh’s involvement; that part comes from Deadline’s report.

The Batman Part II is currently set to open on Feb. 18, 2028, and there is no confirmed change to that date. The sequel stars Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, with Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell returning as Alfred and the Penguin. Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan and Brian Tyree Henry are among the new additions.

For now, the headline is an unusual partnership: Soderbergh helping finish the shoot while Reeves remains connected to the film’s creative direction. Whether the production can resume smoothly and whether the reported handoff affects the release schedule are the questions fans will be watching next.
