T aylor Swift will have a major role at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards , with the singer set to debut the music video for her new single Patient Zero during Sunday's ceremony in Los Angeles . The MTV Video Music Awards are set for September 27 , with the ceremony airing live on CBS from 19:30 ET/16:30 PT , and the show will also simulcast on MTV and stream on Paramount+ .

Snoop Dogg will host the ceremony for the first time, while Madonna is scheduled to open the show with her first live VMAs performance in 23 years. The lineup also includes LISA , GENER8ION , RAYE , Shaboozey , Gunna , Sienna Spiro and Yung Lean . The ceremony will also feature several major tributes. Kacey Musgraves will perform in a special tribute to Dolly Parton , while RAYE , Sombr and Teddy Swims will come together to honor George Michael . Nirvana will receive the Video Vanguard Award . Madonna leads the nominations with 11, but the attention is firmly on whether the 36-year-old Swift will be there just days after releasing her new single Patient Zero to critical acclaim.

Swift has not been announced as a live performer for the VMAs as her most recent performance came back in 2019, when she performed You Need to Calm Down and Lover . But she will have a confirmed presence this year, but not through an announced live performance. Instead, her new Patient Zero music video will receive its world premiere during Sunday's ceremony. The song is part of The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore , which was released Friday, and saw Swift directed the music video starring Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson , with cinematography from Academy Award winner Emmanuel Lubezki. The premiere comes alongside Swift 's inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors , which recognizes artists whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video and visual storytelling. Swift has performed at the VMAs six times, beginning with You Belong With Me in 2009 and later returning for performances including Innocent , We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and Shake It Off . So whilst a live appearance remains unconfirmed, Swift 's music video premiere and new directorial honor ensure she will be a significant part of Sunday's ceremony and the VMAs will give Patient Zero its first public visual presentation just days after release.
