Detroit TV anchor caught calling her boss a ‘bitch’ during explosive newsroom meltdown

The behind-the-scenes video shows Taryn Asher exploding at a colleague, but the tense moment has now resurfaced in the middle of a much bigger legal battle with Fox

A behind-the-scenes video from a Detroit newsroom is drawing attention after veteran TV anchor Taryn Asher was caught losing her temper and calling a colleague a “bitch” while cameras were still rolling.

The footage shows Asher preparing to record a PSA at WJBK-TV Fox 2 Detroit when a disagreement over scripts and the workflow begins to escalate. After complaining about the situation, Asher watches the colleague walk away and says, “Bitch.” Moments later, she adds, “What the f--k. Grow up,” before saying she is “so done with her antics” and accusing the woman of “telling on me every five seconds.”

The newsroom confrontation turns ugly

But the uncomfortable video has resurfaced in the middle of a much bigger fight between Asher and her former employer. The longtime anchor, who joined Fox 2 in 2007 and became a lead evening anchor, was removed from the air in November 2025. Fox says the decision followed repeated complaints about what it characterized as workplace “outbursts” and unprofessional behavior.

Asher tells a very different story. She is suing Fox Television Stations and New World Communications of Detroit for sex discrimination and retaliation, alleging she was treated less favorably than male colleagues and punished after raising concerns about unequal treatment.

Her lawsuit specifically claims male co-anchor Roop Raj received more guest-interview opportunities and greater scheduling flexibility.

Fox disputes those allegations and says Asher's removal was about her conduct, not her gender. According to the station's account reported by the New York Post , several employees complained about her behavior shortly before she was placed on leave, including allegations of shouting, profanity and confrontational interactions with coworkers.

Asher's attorneys argue the viral clip does not tell the full story. They say the confrontation shown in the video happened years earlier, had already been addressed at the time and was not what caused her eventual removal.

Her lawsuit also alleges that male Fox employees accused of serious workplace misconduct received less severe punishment allegations the company disputes.

That leaves the explosive newsroom footage with a very different significance. What looks like a few seconds of an anchor losing her cool is now evidence in the public battle over why Asher's nearly two-decade career at Fox 2 Detroit came to an abrupt end with Fox pointing to her behavior and Asher arguing that discrimination and retaliation were really behind her departure.
