The first three seasons "highlighted" two of the most notorious serial killers in history, Jeffrey Dahmer and Ed Gein , as well as the story of the Menendez brothers . For the fourth season, the main topic will be Lizzie Borden . Director Max Winkler and writer Ian Brennan are going quite a bit back in time for this installment.
Borden was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on July 19, 1860 . Borden was raised by her father, Andrew Borden , and her stepmother, Abby Durfee Gray . Her father was a wealthy property developer, which led to Lizzie foregoing securing a traditional job for a living.
On August 4, 1892, both Andrew Borden and Abby Durfee Gray were murdered . According to investigators, a hatchet was the weapon of choice for the killer . Gray was reportedly struck 17 times in the back of her head in the bedroom of the family's home. Andrew was believed to have been struck 10-11 times with the same weapon, and he was found dead while slumped on the downstairs couch.
Despite displaying erratic behavior during questioning, as well as refusing to answer key questions and even contradicting herself at times, Lizzie Borden was ultimately acquitted of the murder crimes during her trial on June 20, 1893 .
The killer was never found, although many are certain that it was Lizzie who committed the crimes . Her life in the community, though, was never the same. She ended up passing away on June 1, 1927 from pneumonia.
