Archie and Lilibet left without a school in the UK: Why Harry and Meghan pulled their children out of school after just 48 hours

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have been moved to a different school in Britain after spending only two days at their original school, with security concerns reportedly driving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently returned to the UK with their children after several years living in California. Archie , seven, and Lilibet , five, had started at a British school as the family settled into their new life.

However, the arrangement quickly became difficult for the couple’s security team.

According to a statement from Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson, the change followed discussions about the practicalities of their existing security arrangements.

The family’s team reportedly found the daily journey between their home and the school difficult to manage, particularly because of heavy traffic along the route.

The couple had apparently completed security checks at the school before the start of term. However, the team hadn’t been able to properly test the actual school run until the children began attending.

Once the journey was assessed in real-world conditions, concerns reportedly emerged about keeping the security vehicles together safely.

Why the school move happened so quickly

The decision appears to have been logistical rather than connected to the school itself.

“The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements,” a spokesman for Harry and Meghan told Reuters.

“The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family. This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there.”

Reports also suggested that Archie and Lilibet had settled in happily during their brief time there.

That reportedly made the decision especially difficult for their parents, who had hoped the school would work for the family.

The children have since been enrolled at another school, with Harry reportedly seen accompanying Lilibet inside the new setting.

The couple have also reportedly joined parent WhatsApp groups, suggesting that the transition is already underway.

The original school was reportedly located a considerable distance from the family’s home, creating additional complications for the security team. Heavy traffic meant that maintaining a secure convoy during the daily journey wasn’t considered practical.

Although the family had hoped to make the arrangement work, the security concerns ultimately outweighed their preference to keep the children at the school they had already begun enjoying.

Harry and Meghan’s return has coincided with renewed attention on their security arrangements in Britain. Harry has previously challenged decisions surrounding publicly funded protection, while officials are reassessing security now that the family is living in the country again.

King Charles has also reaffirmed that Harry and Meghan remain private citizens rather than working royals. Their return therefore doesn’t automatically restore the security arrangements they had before stepping away from royal duties in 2020.

Harry’s long-running dispute over his UK security has made the issue particularly sensitive. His protection was reduced after he and Meghan stepped back from royal duties and relocated to North America, and he has subsequently pursued legal challenges over the arrangements.

Tthe school change appears to be an attempt to make the children’s daily routine compatible with the family’s security requirements.
