Alaska Permanent Fund Eligibility: who will be getting their payment for September 2026?
Residents waiting for the 2026 dividend should check their status

If you’re waiting on an Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend in September, the key thing to know is that this month’s payment does not represent the main 2026 PFD distribution.
The Alaska Department of Revenue has scheduled a September 10 payment for people whose 2025 or earlier dividend is still unpaid and whose application was listed as “Eligible-Not Paid” as of September 2.
So if you’re waiting specifically for the 2026 Permanent Fund Dividend , September 10 is generally not your payment date. Most 2026 recipients will need to look ahead to October, when the state begins its main annual distributions.
That distinction matters because being eligible for a 2026 PFD doesn't, by itself, mean you’ll receive money this month. Applicants can check their individual status through the state’s myPFD system to see whether their application is included in the upcoming payment run.
Who qualifies for the 2026 Alaska PFD?
Eligibility for the 2026 dividend is based mainly on your residency and circumstances during calendar year 2025. You must have been an Alaska resident throughout 2025 and, when you applied, intended to remain an Alaska resident indefinitely.
You generally cannot have claimed residency in another state or country, or received a benefit based on such a residency claim, at any point since December 31, 2024.
Time spent outside Alaska can also affect eligibility. If you were absent for more than 180 days, that absence must have fallen under one of the program’s allowable categories.
Applicants must also have been physically present in Alaska for at least 72 consecutive hours at some point during either 2024 or 2025. Certain criminal convictions and periods of incarceration can also make a person ineligible.
That includes being sentenced as a result of a felony conviction during 2025 or being incarcerated during the year because of a felony conviction. Some misdemeanor-related incarceration can also affect eligibility depending on prior convictions.
When will the main 2026 PFD payments arrive?
The first major 2026 PFD payment date is scheduled for October 1.
If you filed online, selected direct deposit and have been determined eligible for payment by September 18, your dividend is scheduled to arrive on that date.
A second major payment is scheduled for October 22. Online and paper applicants determined eligible by October 12 can receive their dividend then, either through direct deposit or by check. Paper checks are also scheduled to begin mailing from Juneau on October 22.
If your eligibility is confirmed after those deadlines, your payment will generally move into one of the following monthly distributions.
So the immediate September date to watch is September 10, but that applies only to older unpaid dividends that met the September 2 eligibility cutoff.
If you’re waiting on the 2026 PFD, the more important dates are in October, along with whatever status appears on your individual application.
