Congressman Tom Tiffany suffered minor injuries in a serious incident with his small plane after having to make an emergency landing on Lake Wausau. Both the Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate and the aircraft’s pilot were able to get to safety as the plane sank into the water.
'"God watched over us tonight and I’m incredibly grateful to be here, in the hospital, with my wife Chris by my side. An experience like this reminds you how precious life is," he wrote on his social media.'
"I want to express my deepest gratitude to the pilot, the Wausau Fire Department, and all the first responder teams who came to our aid so quickly. Fortunately, both the pilot and I suffered only minor injuries," he added.
The small plane Tiffany was traveling in lost power and altitude as it approached Wausau's Downton Airport, after attending the Lincoln Day Dinner in La Crosse County. Unable to complete the landing, the pilot was forced to ditch in the water to avoid a potentially fatal accident.
"I want to express my deepest gratitude to the pilot, the Wausau Fire Department, and all the first responder teams who came to our aid so quickly," Tiffany wrote. "Fortunately, both the pilot and I suffered only minor injuries," he added.
