CPI Inflation Report release: When was it announced this month and how much did inflation increase?
The latest CPI report showed inflation accelerating in August, with gasoline prices responsible for a significant part of the monthly rise.

The latest Consumer Price Index report has now been released, giving Americans a fresh look at inflation and how quickly the cost of everyday goods and services is rising.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics published the August 2026 CPI report at 8:30 a.m. ET on Friday, September 11.
Headline inflation increased 0.4% during August on a seasonally adjusted basis, accelerating sharply from the 0.1% monthly rise recorded in July.
"The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.4 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis in August after rising 0.1 percent in July," the BLS said.
CPI inflation remained at 3.4% annually
Over the 12 months through August, consumer prices increased 3.4%. That was unchanged from the annual inflation rate recorded in July.
"The all items index rose 3.4 percent for the 12 months ending August as it did for the 12 months ending July," the BLS said.
Core inflation, which removes the more volatile food and energy categories, rose 0.3% during August. On an annual basis, core CPI increased 2.4%, easing from 2.5% in July.
Energy was one of the biggest reasons headline inflation accelerated during the month.
"The index for gasoline rose 3.9 percent in August, accounting for over one third of the monthly all items increase," the BLS said.
Energy prices overall increased 2.1% during August, while shelter costs rose 0.3% and food prices increased 0.1%.
When is the next CPI inflation report?
The September CPI report won't arrive until next month.
According to the official BLS schedule, September 2026 inflation figures will be released on Wednesday, October 14, at 8:30 a.m. ET.
That report will attract particular attention because inflation remains above the Federal Reserve's long-term 2% target and consumer prices continue to influence expectations for interest rates.
It will also provide the final piece of third-quarter CPI-W data needed to calculate the 2027 Social Security cost-of-living adjustment.
For September, however, the key number is now confirmed: consumer prices rose 0.4% in August and were 3.4% higher than they were a year earlier.
