When it comes to squandering a golden opportunity, James Farthing is giving everyone a run for their money. Back in April 2025, Farthing was one of the lucky few to win a lottery jackpot: a $167 million check from a Powerball draw.

That type of money should have helped his entire family, plus given him the chance to do whatever he wanted with his life. Instead, Farthing quickly got up to no good. The Kentucky man was arrested not even a week after winning the lottery, for kicking a police officer during an altercation in Pinellas County, Florida.

Farthing then got arrested in Kentucky in February of this year for "intimidating a participant in the legal process" . That was followed shortly after by second-degree burglary and marijuana possession charges , stemming from a case which was eventually dismissed.

This past July, Farthing was arrested for first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault . Now, his latest arrest came in September, when he was found asleep in a running vehicle in a Walmart parking lot . He was subsequently charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place .

None of these situations have ruined Farthing's life or messed with his newfound wealth in a major way, but the pattern of arrests paint an ominous picture for his future.
