Mountain lion sparks tense standoff near oceanfront neighborhood in San Francisco

Residents of San Francisco’s Outer Sunset neighborhood woke up Friday to an unexpected and alarming sight: a mountain lion roaming through city streets just blocks from the Pacific Ocean. The large cat was first spotted around 7:30 a.m. near Ulloa Street and 44th Avenue, prompting an immediate response from wildlife officials, San Francisco Animal Care and Control personnel, and law enforcement officers. What followed was a tense, hours-long effort to safely capture the animal while keeping residents out of harm’s way. Authorities eventually succeeded in tranquilizing the mountain lion, but not before a dramatic standoff unfolded in front of concerned neighbors and local media crews.
