Powerball Winning Numbers: Results for Monday September 28 drawing for the $389 Million jackpot
Did one lucky American manage to claim the life-changing fortune?

Powerball players have another chance to hit a massive jackpot Monday night after Saturday's drawing ended without a ticket matching all six numbers, meaning the prize money rolls over. The rollover pushed the estimated jackpot to $389 million for the September 28 drawing. The winner who chooses the cash option would receive an estimated $161.9 million before taxes.
The jackpot remains subject to the final number of tickets sold and other factors and Monday night's winning numbers will be announced following the drawing at approximately 22:59 ET/19:59 PT. The previous drawing, held Saturday, September 26 , produced the numbers 14-40-52-55-57 , with 24 selected as the Powerball . The Power Play was 3X . No ticket matched all five white balls and the Powerball to claim the jackpot. There was also no Match 5 ticket that won the top prize with the Power Play . Powerball drawings are held three times a week, on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Players can watch the drawings through Powerball 's official website, while recorded clips are available through its YouTube channel. A standard Powerball play costs $2. Players choose five numbers from 1 through 69 and one Powerball number from 1 through 26. An additional $1 allows players to add Power Play , which can multiply eligible non-jackpot prizes. Players who do not want to select their own numbers can use Quick Pick , allowing the lottery terminal to generate a combination automatically. Winning the jackpot requires matching every number drawn: all five white balls and the red Powerball . If no ticket does that, the jackpot carries over to the next drawing and Powerball tickets are sold across 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C. , Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands .
What is the Powerball jackpot record and what did the winner do with it?
Monday's $389 million jackpot remains far below the biggest prize in Powerball history as that record belongs to Edwin Castro , whose ticket matched the winning combination in the November 7, 2022 drawing. The California ticket was worth an unprecedented $2.04 billion, the largest lottery jackpot ever won by a single ticket and Castro opted against the annuity and instead accepted the lump-sum payment. That was worth approximately $997.6 million before taxes and Castro initially remained anonymous, but the California Lottery identified him as the sole jackpot winner in February 2023. His subsequent purchases provided some insight into how he used at least part of the enormous fortune as Castro purchased a $25.5 million mansion in the Hollywood Hills and later acquired a property in Altadena for approximately $3.98 million. He was also linked through public records to a Malibu property valued at roughly $3.85 million, but the home was destroyed in the January 2025 Palisades fire whilst Castro 's other properties in the Los Angeles area were also affected. He has made at least one known return to Joe's Service Center in Altadena , where his record-setting ticket was purchased but beyond those publicly documented property transactions, not much is known about Castro .
