SSDI Payment September 2026: Who will be getting their disability benefits tomorrow for this month?
The next September disability payment is going to beneficiaries in one specific birthday group
Millions of Americans rely on Social Security Disability Insurance each month, but their payments do not all arrive on the same day.
The next September 2026 SSDI payment is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, and it applies primarily to beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 11th and 20th of any month.
Social Security uses a staggered payment system for most retirement and disability beneficiaries.
Under that schedule, people born between the 1st and 10th are generally paid on the second Wednesday of the month, those born between the 11th and 20th on the third Wednesday, and those born between the 21st and 31st on the fourth Wednesday.
In September, that places the three regular Wednesday payment dates on Sept. 9, Sept. 16 and Sept. 23. The official 2026 calendar confirms that Sept. 16 is the third Wednesday of the month.
Who should expect an SSDI payment on September 16?
The September 16 payment is generally for SSDI recipients with birthdays from the 11th through the 20th who follow the standard birthday-based schedule.
That means a beneficiary born on January 15, May 11 or October 20 would normally fall into Wednesday's payment group. Some beneficiaries are paid on a different schedule, however.
People who began receiving Social Security before May 1997, as well as many people who receive both Supplemental Security Income and Social Security benefits, are generally paid their Social Security benefit on the third day of the month instead.
The same birthday rule also applies when certain family or survivor benefits are based on another worker's earnings record. In those cases, the payment date is tied to the birthday of the person whose record the benefit is based on.
When is the final September SSDI payment?
Beneficiaries who are not due money on September 16 may still have another payment date coming later in the month. The final regular September payment is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23, for recipients whose birthdays fall between the 21st and 31st.
Most Social Security benefits are delivered electronically through direct deposit or a Direct Express debit card. Anyone who does not receive an expected payment should first check with their bank or financial institution in case the deposit has been delayed on that end.
The Social Security Administration 's 2026 schedule also advises beneficiaries to allow three additional mailing days before contacting the agency about a missing payment.
