What is the SSDI payment schedule for September 2026? Dates for next month's benefits
Four September payment dates depending on eligibility and birthday.

Social Security Disability Insurance recipients will receive their September 2026 payments on different dates depending on when they first began receiving benefits and, for most beneficiaries, their date of birth.
The Social Security Administration's official 2026 calendar confirms four relevant Social Security payment dates during September: September 3, 9, 16 and 23.
Most SSDI recipients will be paid on one of the three Wednesdays during the month, while people who began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 follow a different schedule.
When will SSDI be paid in September 2026?
Recipients who started receiving Social Security before May 1997 are scheduled to receive their September benefit on Thursday, September 3.
The same September 3 Social Security payment date applies to people who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income. Their SSI payment is issued separately on September 1.
Everyone else generally follows the SSA's birthday-based Wednesday schedule.
People born between the 1st and 10th of any month will receive their September SSDI payment on Wednesday, September 9.
Those with birthdays from the 11th through the 20th are scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, while beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st will be paid on Wednesday, September 23.
How does the SSDI payment schedule work?
The SSA normally distributes Social Security benefits according to the beneficiary's birth date.
Its official calendar states that benefits for birthdays from the "1st - 10th" are paid on the second Wednesday, those from the "11th - 20th" on the third Wednesday and birthdays from the "21st - 31st" on the fourth Wednesday.
That system applies to SSDI as well as most other Social Security benefits unless the recipient falls under one of the earlier payment rules.
The SSA also advises beneficiaries not to immediately assume there is a problem when a payment doesn't arrive on its scheduled date.
Its calendar says recipients should "allow three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security" if the expected payment hasn't arrived.
That means September SSDI recipients should first identify which payment group applies to them before determining exactly when their next deposit is due.
