When is the first SSDI payment being made this month? Schedule for the next disability deposit

The first September SSDI payment arrives on September 3.

The first Social Security Disability Insurance payment of September 2026 is scheduled to arrive on Thursday, September 3, although that date only applies to certain beneficiaries.

Most SSDI recipients won't receive their money until later in the month because Social Security uses a staggered payment schedule based primarily on birthdays.

AARP confirms that people receiving both SSI and a Social Security benefit, including disability benefits, are among those scheduled to receive their Social Security payment on September 3. People who have been receiving Social Security since before May 1, 1997 are also generally paid on that date.

Who gets the first SSDI payment in September?

The September 3 payment can also apply to beneficiaries living abroad and people enrolled in a Medicare Savings Program .

Victory Disability explains the exception by noting that people who began receiving SSDI before May 1997, or who receive both SSDI and SSI, are usually paid near the beginning of the month.

People who don't fall into one of those categories generally follow the birthday-based Wednesday schedule.

AARP explains: "If the birthday is on the 1st through the 10th, you are paid on the second Wednesday of each month."

When are the remaining September SSDI payments?

In September 2026, beneficiaries with birthdays between the 1st and 10th are scheduled to receive their payment on Wednesday, September 9.

People born from the 11th through the 20th are due to be paid on Wednesday, September 16.

The final regular SSDI payment of the month comes on Wednesday, September 23 for beneficiaries with birthdays between the 21st and 31st.

That means there are four relevant SSDI payment dates this month: September 3, 9, 16 and 23, depending on the beneficiary's circumstances.

SSI follows a separate schedule and was paid on Tuesday, September 1 this month.

Beneficiaries should therefore check which payment group applies to them before worrying about a missing September deposit, as two people receiving SSDI can legitimately receive their benefits weeks apart.
