A student at the University of Georgia has been at the center of a miraculous story that has quickly gone viral. Kristin Sargent, just 21 years old, survived a fall from the eighth floor of a building. The young woman is hospitalized in intensive care with various undisclosed injuries as a result of the impact, but everything indicates that she will live to tell the tale.

Kristin was dancing on a couch in an apartment at The Rambler, on West Broad Street, when she plunged out of a window on the afternoon of last Saturday and landed near an interior courtyard with a pool, according to information revealed exclusively by The New York Post.

Her father told Channel 2 Action News what happened and shared an update on his daughter's condition. " She is pretty badly injured, but we are lucky that she is alive and we are fortunate. She is a good fighter, so she will be fine," he said.

'" She was talking to one of her friends and saying to her: ‘Hey, I’m alive. I can’t believe it". The University of Georgia had just won a football game. I bet there were a lot of 21-year-olds here who were super happy ,” he said about the causes of the incident.'

Elik Ellison, a police officer, recounted what happened after gathering testimonies from witnesses at the scene. "I arrived and spoke with passersby, who informed me that the victim, a woman, was dancing on a sofa or inflatable mattress near an open window and that, apparently, she had fallen through the screen to the ground ," he said.

'"When I arrived, the victim was on the ground near the pool, which in this complex is located in a courtyard on the second floor of the building. From what could be seen at the scene, the victim struck a metal bench when she fell , since the bench cushion had some blood on it and the armrest had broken," he revealed.'

A lounge chair would have prevented a fatal outcome by cushioning Kristin’s fall. The circumstances of the incident are still under investigation, while the young woman recovers from her serious injuries in the hospital. The University is reviewing whether the window safety mechanisms functioned correctly, or whether there was any negligence.
