Natalie Harp has spent years operating largely behind the scenes in US President Donald Trump 's political world.

Now, the 35-year-old White House aide has suddenly become one of the most discussed figures surrounding the president after reports revealed the existence of intensely personal letters she wrote to Trump .

Harp's unusual closeness to the president has already attracted attention inside and outside the White House.

Her role has also come under renewed scrutiny following comments from Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff and reports about her involvement in Trump's communications and inner circle.

The latest controversy centers on private letters written by Harp to Trump in 2023.

The correspondence, obtained by The Daily Beast and subsequently reported on by other outlets, has raised questions about the nature of Harp's relationship with the president and the extent of her influence.

In one letter, Harp reportedly wrote: “I never want to bring you anything but joy. I'm sorry I lost my focus. You are all that matters to me. I don't want to ever let you down. Thank you for being my guardian and protector in this life.”

The letter was signed, “with all my heart, Natalie.” Another included a similarly emotional passage in which Harp asked Trump to tell her when she made mistakes and said he had the right to reprimand her.

The revelations have intensified interest in an aide who was already known for being exceptionally loyal to Trump .

How Natalie Harp rose into Trump's inner circle

Harp's connection with Trump dates back to her experience as a cancer survivor.

She has publicly credited Trump 's first-term Right to Try legislation with helping her access treatment, although medical experts have disputed whether the law was actually necessary for her to receive the drug she was given.

That experience helped propel Harp into the conservative political spotlight. She spoke at the 2020 Republican National Convention and subsequently worked as a presenter for the right-wing One America News Network.

She joined Trump 's political operation in 2022 and became a familiar presence around him during the period between his two presidencies.

By the 2024 campaign, she had earned the nickname “human printer” because she frequently carried a portable printer and supplied Trump with printed copies of news reports, social media posts and other information.

That role has continued into Trump 's second administration. Her official position is executive assistant to the president, but reporting indicates that her responsibilities extend well beyond traditional administrative duties.

She is frequently near Trump during meetings, travels and public events, and she has helped with his Truth Social posts. One episode described by CNN illustrates just how determined Harp has been to remain close to Trump.

In October 2023, when there reportedly was no room for her in Trump 's motorcade for a New York court appearance, she became involved in a confrontation with staffers before ultimately climbing into the trunk of an SUV to make the trip.

Her proximity to Trump has also reportedly frustrated some other advisers, particularly when they have wanted private meetings with the president.

At the same time, White House officials have defended her, with spokesman Davis Ingle describing Harp as “one of the most loyal and hardest working aides on President Trump’s team.”

The scrutiny intensified further after Ossoff publicly highlighted Harp 's presence around Trump , including her involvement in a secret plane switch during a trip to Turkey amid a reported security threat.

The White House strongly objected to Ossoff 's comments, while Harp 's supporters argued that the senator was unfairly targeting an aide who has simply been dedicated to her job. Nevertheless, the letters have added a new dimension to the controversy.

Critics are questioning whether Harp 's extraordinary personal loyalty could affect the information and advice reaching the president, while Trump's allies continue to portray her as a hardworking and trusted member of his team.

For now, Harp remains firmly embedded in Trump's orbit. The controversy may have made her far more recognizable to the public, but there is little indication that the attention has weakened her standing with the president.
