Never Give Up: 59-Year-Old Woman Finally Welcomes Baby With 70-Year-Old Partner After Decade-Long Battle
Little Francesca Pia was born in a hospital in Salerno, in southern Italy

A couple from the province of Salerno , in southern Italy , has finally fulfilled the dream they had been pursuing for more than a decade: becoming parents . The mother , 59 years old , gave birth to a baby girl, Francesca Pia , in a hospital in Salerno. The father is 70 years old . The news was announced by Professor Mario Polichetti , a gynecologist and expert in assisted reproduction who accompanied the couple throughout the entire process.
The path has not been easy . According to Il Fatto Quotidiano , for more than 10 years the couple lived with a deep desire to have a child, put to the test by a painful succession of failed attempts . However, they did not give up, and today they can hold in their arms the little girl they had long awaited.
Polichetti waited two months before announcing the birth to make sure everything was going well. “Today the baby is doing well, as is the mother,” explained the specialist, who emphasized that the woman had never been pregnant before . The baby girl weighed 2.4 kilos at birth and has already reached 4.5.
What impressed the gynecologist the most was the mother. “Even after the delivery, she recovered much faster than many young mothers ,” he noted. The doctor, who has seen them again after the birth, says that the girl is growing up healthy and “is beautiful.”
“We are dealing with an absolutely exceptional case . Conceiving at 59 is extremely rare,” said Polichetti, who believes that, with the aging of the population and the increase in life expectancy, these types of pregnancies will become increasingly frequent. Even so, he urges caution: “Each case must be analyzed individually,” since age cannot be the only criterion for becoming a mother .
And according to experts, it should be noted that there is no age limit for having children, but female fertility begins to decline as women approach 40 , while male fertility can be maintained beyond 50.
