MLB National Anthem performance turns awkward after trumpet breaks

An MLB National Anthem performance suddenly turned awkward when trumpeter Jesse McGuire’s instrument stopped working in front of thousands of fans.
McGuire was performing before the Arizona Diamondbacks faced the New York Yankees when his trumpet failed halfway through the song. After trying unsuccessfully to fix it, he grabbed the microphone and began singing the rest of the anthem while still holding the instrument.
The Chase Field crowd joined in before giving McGuire a standing ovation. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo even congratulated him afterward. The moment was especially fitting because McGuire had performed during Arizona’s 2001 championship run, which the team was celebrating that night.
