The LAPD continues to investigate the tragic incident.

Meanwhile, inside the stadium, the Dodgers fell 8-6 to the Cardinals in extra innings.

Is Shohei Ohtani in a slump?

Los Los Angeles Dodgers admitted there is concern regarding Shohei Ohtani’s physical condition . Manager Dave Roberts acknowledged that he saw the Japanese superstar visibly limited at the plate during Wednesday’s matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals, a game in which Ohtani finished 0-for-4 with four strikeouts .

Following the Dodgers’ 8-6 loss in 10 innings , Roberts said Ohtani’s swing does not look like it normally does and revealed that he will meet with the training staff and the player himself to evaluate his physical condition and determine whether he needs a day off. However, he ruled out the possibility of placing him on the injured list for now.

“I saw the same thing that everyone saw,” Roberts said after an 8-6 loss in 10 innings to the St. Louis Cardinals . “You could see the swing wasn’t the swing that we’re used to seeing. He's not close to optimal.”

Ohtani has not pitched in a game since July 3 due to lingering discomfort in his left knee and right biceps, issues that could also be affecting his offensive production. The four-time MVP is currently batting .279 and struck out four consecutive times in a game for the first time this season.

Although Roberts praised the Japanese star’s competitive mindset and desire to remain in the lineup, he made it clear that protecting his health is the priority.

“I know he feels that he needs to post and be in the lineup and if he's upright he should play,” Roberts said. “I respect that, but if he’s feeling the way that he visibly looks, then it's really not helping anyone.”
