Dodgers rumors: LA eyes blockbuster trades for Elly De La Cruz or CJ Abrams
Los Angeles could make major roster changes after falling short of another World Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers could be preparing for another aggressive offseason after falling short of their historic pursuit of a third consecutive World Series championship.
Following their National League Championship Series sweep at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers , the defending champions have plenty of reasons to reassess their roster before attempting another title run in 2027.
Despite the disappointing finish, Los Angeles remains one of baseball's strongest contenders. However, getting younger, faster and more athletic could become major priorities for the front office, particularly with several established stars entering the later stages of their careers.
According to MLB insider Jim Bowden , the Dodgers should explore opportunities to add younger offensive talent rather than just relying on their veteran core.
Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy and Mookie Betts are all 34 or older, making long-term roster planning increasingly important.
Bowden believes improving second base and left field should be among the organization's priorities. He also suggested adding a right-handed option for a third-base platoon.
Two particularly intriguing trade possibilities are Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz and Washington Nationals infielder CJ Abrams.
Elly De La Cruz and CJ Abrams could transform the Dodgers
De La Cruz enjoyed an impressive 2026 campaign, batting .283 with a .365 on-base percentage. He also delivered 30 home runs, 79 RBIs and 30 stolen bases. Approaching his 25th birthday, the Cincinnati star could provide an exciting long-term addition to the Dodgers' lineup.
His combination of power, speed and defensive versatility would give Los Angeles another dangerous offensive weapon. De La Cruz could also help address the organization's desire to become a more athletic team capable of creating runs in different ways.
Abrams also delivered outstanding offensive production. The Washington infielder hit .261 with a .336 on-base percentage, recording 33 home runs, 106 RBIs and 34 stolen bases. At 26, he's another younger option who could immediately strengthen Los Angeles.
However, neither deal would necessarily come cheaply. Both organizations would likely demand substantial prospect packages before considering a blockbuster move.
The Dodgers also have promising young talent of their own. Outfield prospects Josue De Paula, Mike Sirota and Eduardo Quintero are reportedly approaching major-league readiness, potentially giving the organization valuable flexibility in trade discussions.
Los Angeles must decide whether to preserve that developing talent or use some of it to acquire established stars.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers could face competition from Boston, which is also expected to monitor both infielders. The Red Sox could complicate negotiations if they decide to make serious offers to Cincinnati or Washington.
Starting pitching represents another important offseason consideration. Tarik Skubal , a two-time Cy Young Award winner, is attracting attention, while the San Diego Padres could emerge as serious competitors for his services after Michael King's decision to enter free agency.
Jim Axisa has suggested that San Diego's new ownership could make an aggressive attempt to sign Skubal .
The Dodgers have several possible routes back to championship contention. Whether they pursue Abrams, De La Cruz or pitching reinforcements, their offseason decisions will shape the next chapter of their dynasty.
