This Red Sox star feels “like sh*t” while the Yankees celebrate big win with champagne

Garrett Crochet and Willson Contreras were left questioning how Boston’s season ended

The final out had barely settled before the contrast became impossible to miss.

New York was celebrating a two-game wild-card sweep of the Red Sox , champagne flowing as players prepared for an ALDS matchup with Tampa Bay. Boston, meanwhile, was left to digest another postseason exit at the hands of its biggest rival.

Garrett Crochet captured the frustration better than anyone.

“I feel healthy but I feel like s**t,” Crochet said after the loss.

The left-hander had returned to the mound for the first time since late April following a battle with left shoulder inflammation, but his comeback lasted only four batters. Crochet allowed three runs on four hits without recording an out.

Yankees turn rivalry into another celebration

New York dominated the series from start to finish, outscoring Boston 18-2 across two games and giving the Red Sox little room to respond.

Cody Bellinger delivered the decisive blow in Game 2, launching a three-run homer in the sixth inning that effectively ended Boston’s hopes of extending the series.

“Honestly, this place is such an amazing place to play in the postseason,” Bellinger told YES Network. “Fans are so into the game; it’s just an electric atmosphere. It’s really special.”

Aaron Judge did not play because of a right calf strain, but he was still part of the clubhouse celebration afterward.

“We’re definitely inspired by the Knicks, gotta keep the winning going in New York,” Judge said.

The Yankees now move on with momentum. The Red Sox leave with questions.

Crochet was not the only player struggling to process the loss.

Willson Contreras, one of Boston’s few productive hitters in Game 2, went 2-for-2 with a home run and two walks. The rest of the lineup combined for just two hits.

Asked why the offense had fallen so sharply after a strong stretch earlier in the season, Contreras initially held back.

“That’s a good question. I’m not going to answer it because I don’t want to give my honest answer,” he said. “We got eliminated. That’s the bottom line.”

He later pointed to what he believes is an overreliance on data.

“It’s not enough when you have talent or you have data or you have computers telling you what to do,” Contreras said. “This is baseball and the data is here to help us. But at the end of the day, you’re going to need experience and veteran guys to win games.”

Asked directly whether Boston had leaned too heavily on analytics, Contreras replied: “If you watch the game. If you watch the game.”

The Yankees leave the series with another postseason victory over Boston and a champagne-soaked clubhouse.

The Red Sox leave with another early playoff exit and an offseason that now begins with frustration instead of momentum.
