After a day in which his presence in the American League Wild Card Series was ruled out, Aaron Judge now refuses to sit out and instead aims to help the New York Yankees in the first round of the playoffs.

Aaron Judge maintains hope of returning with the Yankees

One day after manager Aaron Boone acknowledged that the organization was preparing to face the series without its captain, Judge offered a much more encouraging outlook on his recovery.

The slugger told ESPN that his goal is to be available fo r Game 1 next Tuesday while he continues working to overcome a moderate-grade muscle strain in his right calf.

“That’s what the plan is,” Judge said. “Try to get my body ready so I’m ready to go.”

The three-time American League MVP’s words contrast with the message Boone had delivered just a day earlier.

“We’re planning on him not being a part of that,” the Yankees manager said, though he left the door open for a possible return if Judge’s progress is favorable.

Judge was placed on the injured list on Saturday, retroactive to September 17 , temporarily ending another regular season marked by physical issues.

The New York captain received a platelet-poor plasma injection on Monday and has had restrictions on his activity while waiting for clearance to increase his workload.

Although time is limited, Judge still believes in his chances. However, he acknowledged that reaching good physical condition does not automatically mean he will be included on the roster, as the final decision will rest with the Yankees .

For now, New York is preparing for the scenario of competing without its primary offensive force, but the door for Judge’s return remains fully open.

If he ultimately fails to recover in time or can only participate in some games, the Yankees will have to find a way to advance in the playoffs without the most dangerous bat in their lineup.
