With just three games remaining in the regular season and the New York Yankees focused on their playoff opener, Aaron Judge 's status remains surrounded by uncertainty. What initially appeared to be a routine injury update has now turned into a public debate after the star slugger openly contradicted manager Aaron Boone , a situation that has already caught the attention of a prominent MLB insider.

Judge pushes back against Aaron Boone's outlook

While Judge remains sidelined with a calf injury , Boone said the team is not expecting its captain to be available for the American League Wild Card Series and described the injury as a moderate calf strain.

Judge, however, rejected that assessment and made it clear that his goal is still to be ready for Game 1 of the postseason, prompting veteran reporter Ken Rosenthal to note on Foul Territory that this kind of public disagreement is highly unusual within the Yankees organization.

"The story last night was Aaron Judge continuing to say he wants to play. His plan is to play, and while it was subtle, he did push back against Boone. Words matter. I don't care how much he was smiling when he said it," Rosenthal said.

The respected MLB insider also pointed to another area where Judge appeared to disagree with his manager: the severity of the injury.

"Judge also seemed to question Boone calling the strain moderate. He said, 'A moderate strain for one person isn't the same as it is for another.' So what's going on here? Because with the Yankees, you rarely see this kind of disagreement become public," Rosenthal added.

An unusual situation for the Yankees

Rosenthal has no doubt that Judge is doing everything possible to return as quickly as he can and believes the slugger's comments reflect the mindset of a superstar unwilling to miss October baseball. Still, he warned that calf injuries are notoriously unpredictable.

"Maybe Aaron Judge gets healthy all of a sudden, but calf injuries are notoriously tricky. I don't know how this ends. What I do know is that it's very unusual to see the Yankees airing this level of disagreement publicly," Rosenthal concluded.

With the Wild Card Series just days away, Judge's status remains unresolved. While Boone is preparing the Yankees as if they will be without their biggest star, Judge continues to stand by one message: he fully intends to be on the field for Game 1 of the playoffs .
