Another year without a World Serie s title equals another failure for the New York Yankees . Aaron Boone ’s team once again fell short of its goal after being swept by the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series earlier this month.

The elimination came with a 4-3 loss in Game 4 at Yankee Stadium , a blow that crushed the high expectations surrounding the franchise heading into the postseason.

Alex Rodríguez missed on his Yankees prediction

One of those with the greatest confidence in the Yankees was organizational legend Alex Rodríguez .

Before the postseason began, the former player predicted that New York would reach the 2026 World Series and even lift the trophy.

I’m going to go with the Yankees beating the Dodgers in a rematch from a couple years ago. The best two pitching staffs in the game. I’m going to go with them. Pitching and defense.

Rodríguez’s forecast fell well short of reality. The Yankees failed to advance past the Alex Rodríguezand will have to wait at least another season to try to end a World Series drought that continues to grow.

A solid season that ended in disappointment

Although the finish was bitter, New York put together a strong regular season, finishing 93-68 in 161 games and placing second in the American League East.

The Yankees also swept the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card Series , raising hopes of a return to the Fall Classic for the first time in several years.

The Rays ended those aspirations and once again left one of baseball’s most decorated franchises without the championship it continues to chase.

Despite what was a disappointing 2026 season for the Yankees , all signs point to Aaron Boone returning for another year as manager. It's worth remembering that the Bronx Bombers haven't won a World Series since 2009, when they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies.
