The New York Yankees absorbed another significant blow in the final stretch of the season after being forced to place Aaron Judge back on the injured list (IL) , just one week after his return from a rib fracture that kept him out for 60 days.

The Yankees captain is now dealing with a calf strain. While he is eligible to return with only a couple of regular-season games remaining, uncertainty remains over whether the team will activate him.

With New York already locked into a postseason berth, the organization faces a critical decision in the coming days: risk bringing their biggest star back or give him extra recovery time with an eye toward the playoffs.

The outlook, however, is not encouraging. Yankees insider Joel Sherman of The New York Pos t believes there is a real chance Judge will not play again this season — even if the team advances deep into the postseason.

Joel Sherman casts doubt on Aaron Judge’s return

There’s a pretty strong possibility that Aaron Judge doesn’t play again this season,” Sherman said recently.

While the reporter’s comments are not a definitive confirmation, they serve as a clear warning sign for the Yankees , who could head into October without their primary offensive force.

The silver lining for New York is that the team has already spent much of the season adapting to life without its star. Although World Series aspirations take a clear hit without Judge in the lineup, this roster has shown it can still compete in his absence.

What did Aaron Judge say about his injury?

The New York Yankees captain did not hide his frustration after returning to the 10-day injured list on Saturday . Although he avoided revealing details about the severity of his right calf strain, Judge made it clear that he still hopes to be available for the postseason .

“I’d like to be back by the postseason,” Judge said. “That’s definitely the plan. [It’s the] 10-day IL, so the 10th day is probably the last game of the season. So we’ll see. I’ve got really no answers for you on any timeline or anything like that.”
