O wen Coyne had already found the place where he wanted to continue his education and football career. The Marblehead High School senior had committed to Williams College , with another season alongside his high school teammates still ahead. Now, his family and Massachusetts community are mourning his death at just 17.

Coyne died following a “sudden brain hemorrhage,” according to his mother, Angela Paradise, who shared a tribute through the Marblehead Current . She said the hemorrhage was not caused by an impact. Her statement did not identify what triggered the bleeding.

A football captain remembered for much more than sports

A senior wide receiver and football co-captain, Coyne also competed in baseball and track. Following his death, Marblehead canceled its scheduled Saturday game against Danvers. Williams football coach Mark Raymond expressed his sorrow, describing Coyne as an exceptional student-athlete whom the college had been excited to welcome.

At home, he was “Owie” ; to friends, teammates and coaches, he was “OC.” His mother remembered a caring older brother to Grady, Landon and Ella, whose kindness mattered as much as his athletic ability. Beyond school sports, he taught sailing in Marblehead and loved spending time on the water.

The college commitment makes the loss especially painful for those who watched him work toward it. Raymond said the Williams community was deeply saddened and extended its thoughts to Coyne’s family and friends. Coyne is survived by his mother, his father, Brian, and his three younger siblings.

His mother’s tribute returned to the future he had earned but would never experience. After visiting Williams, meeting the team and touring campus, the family believed he had found his next home. She promised to keep remembering him, talking about him and carrying his legacy forward.
