Bryce James opens Arizona exhibition with a 3 as LeBron begins his 24th NBA season and their family’s next chapter takes shape
The father and son are approaching very different basketball milestones as Bryce builds his own path in college and LeBron prepares for another NBA season
B ryce James made his first shot of Arizona’s exhibition against San Francisco count. The sophomore guard opened the scoring with a three-pointer on Arizona’s first possession, giving him a small but memorable moment as he continues to find his footing in college basketball. Arizona went on to win 93-69 , and Bryce finished with three points, one assist and one steal in 14 minutes.
That first basket arrived just days before his father, LeBron James, is set to begin his 24th NBA season this time with the Philadelphia 76ers . The regular season is scheduled to open Oct. 20.
Bryce is not entering his second year of high school; he is a sophomore at Arizona after redshirting last season. That extra year gave him time to develop before stepping into a college program, and one exhibition game cannot predict how far he will go. But a confident opening shot is the kind of moment that lets him show what he can do on his own court.
Bryce and Bronny are building different paths
The family’s basketball story also includes Bronny James, who is with the Los Angeles Lakers. His move into the NBA brought intense attention, with every performance measured against his famous last name and his father’s legacy.
Bryce is facing a different stage of that scrutiny: he is still developing in college, with more room to grow before professional expectations arrive.
The comparisons between the brothers are inevitable, but their careers will not follow the same timeline. LeBron’s achievements may shape how people talk about his sons, yet neither has to reproduce his career to make his own mark.
For Bryce, the next step is simply to keep learning, earn minutes and turn flashes like this opening three into steady progress.
For LeBron, the new season is another chance to compete at the highest level and make the most of his time in the league by chasing every record within reach, while his sons pursue their own basketball ambitions . For Bryce, this shot is just one step on the path he is forging in basketball, with plenty of anticipation surrounding what he might accomplish if he reaches the NBA.
