Colorado quarterback Julian “JuJu” Lewis is ruled out for Saturday’s game against Kansas State after a medical emergency sent him to a local hospital Wednesday. His father, T. Carlton Lewis, said his son is recovering and thanked the medical team, teammates and Colorado fans for their prayers and support.

“Please respect Julian and the Lewis family’s privacy,” his father added. Neither the family nor the university has disclosed what caused the emergency or provided further details about Lewis’ condition. His father’s update offers a hopeful sign, while making clear that the family wants space as the quarterback recovers.

Colorado Athletics said Lewis remains in the thoughts of every player, coach and staff member. The school added that it would support him and his family in any way it could, and that his health and well-being are the program’s top priority.

The support has also come from inside the locker room. Wide receiver Joseph Williams posted, “Praying for you 10 I love you man God has your back twin,” followed by heart emojis. In a separate message, Williams urged people not to judge players without knowing what they may be going through and wrote that athletes’ mental health matters. He did not connect that message to the cause of Lewis’ medical emergency.

Colorado’s availability report first listed Lewis as doubtful, then changed his status to out Thursday. The update confirms he will miss the Kansas State game, but the school has not announced when he might return to football activities. There is no public timeline for his recovery.

Lewis opened the season as Colorado’s starting quarterback before Isaac Wilson took over. The highly touted recruit has thrown for 733 yards and six touchdowns, with two interceptions . His absence leaves the Buffaloes without a young quarterback who was expected to play a significant role in the program’s future.

Saturday’s home matchup with Kansas State carries weight for Colorado, which is trying to end a losing streak. But as the team prepares for the game, the messages from Williams and the school point to what matters most right now: Lewis’ recovery and the support around him.

The reason for the emergency remains unknown, and the family has asked for privacy. For his teammates, the immediate message is simple: they are praying for him, standing by him and hoping he continues to recover.
