K ayla Saager-Beckley ’s family is mourning the former Binghamton University soccer captain after she died suddenly in Tulsa , Oklahoma , just months after marrying her husband, John Beckley . The 30-year-old Saager-Beckley collapsed about 10 minutes after completing a workout on September 9 whilst she was pregnant. Her unborn daughter, Sawyer , did not survive the accident.

Binghamton also confirmed her death on September 10, remembering a player who became one of the program’s standout strikers, known for her fierce competitiveness with a deep passion for soccer. Saager-Beckley scored 22 goals across two seasons with the Bearcats from 2017-18, and she was a two-time all-region selection and earned America East Striker of the Year honors in 2017. That 2017 season became a defining chapter in Binghamton history as Saager-Beckley helped the Bearcats win the America East championship, completing a remarkable turnaround after finishing last in the conference one year prior. After college, Saager-Beckley continued her playing career in the Czech Republic before moving into coaching and recruiting. She later spent four years as an assistant at Troy University while earning a master’s degree. She joined the University of Tulsa ’s coaching staff in 2025 and had recently moved into college soccer scouting and recruiting. Her move to Oklahoma came after she married Beckley in June, adding another layer of heartbreak to the loss. And on Monday, September 14 the Tulsa head football coach Tre Lamb confirmed the sudden nature of the tragedy, whilst John issued a moving statement. “Kayla was a beautiful, loving and unforgettable soul,” said John . “Whose laughter, kindness and love touched so many lives. She and Sawyer will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved them.”
