Meet ‘Big Baby,’ the nearly 400-pound Alabama high school lineman nobody wants to run against
But his movement, not just his size, makes the viral footage impossible to forget

The running back moves toward the middle of the field, where high school football games are usually decided by leverage, speed and whoever reaches the opening first. Then OBrendan Jones appears.
Wearing No. 72, the Luverne High School defensive lineman absorbs the blocking in front of him , closes the space and helps drive the ball carrier into the ground. At nearly 400 pounds, the collision looks brutally unfair. What happens afterward may be even more surprising: Jones gets up and jogs away as if the play required almost no effort.
The short clip has turned the Alabama senior into one of high school football’s newest viral sensations. His nickname is “Big Baby,” but nothing about facing him in the middle of the defensive line looks harmless.
The size attracts the first click. His movement keeps people watching
OBrendan is still larger than almost every NFL defensive lineman, and he is producing these mismatches while playing at the high school level.
Jones is a senior in the Class of 2027 and plays defensive tackle and nose guard for Luverne, a Class 2A program in Alabama. His job is not always to chase quarterbacks or accumulate spectacular statistics. At his position, simply occupying multiple blockers can destroy an offense’s plan before the ball carrier reaches the line of scrimmage.
That is what makes him such an unusual problem. An opposing team cannot pretend Jones is not there. Running directly toward him means asking teenage offensive linemen to move a player weighing close to 400 pounds. Sending two blockers at him creates opportunities for the rest of Luverne’s defense.
Jones does not remain planted in one spot after the snap. In the footage spreading across social media, he moves laterally, follows the play and participates in finishing the tackle. For a player with his frame, even a few surprisingly quick steps are enough to make the clip feel almost unreal.
OBrendan Jones is becoming more than a viral curiosity
The numbers show that Jones was contributing before the internet discovered him. MaxPreps credited him with 35 total tackles across 10 games during his junior season in 2025 . Luverne won 12 consecutive games before its season ended with a 35-16 playoff loss to Lanett.
The Tigers have started the 2026 season in similarly dominant fashion. They defeated Pike County 52-14 and Brantley 44-14, scoring 96 points while allowing only 28 through their first two games. Jones has been credited with four tackles during that opening stretch.
The viral attention has arrived just as his college recruitment begins to develop. Jones recently received an offer from Kansas Wesleyan, an NAIA program in Kansas. It is an offer rather than a commitment, and no major Power Four opportunities have been publicly reported.
His projection at the next level will involve more than one viral tackle. College coaches will evaluate his conditioning, technique, leverage and ability to maintain his explosiveness throughout an entire game. They will also decide whether his future is at defensive tackle, nose guard or potentially on the offensive line.
Those questions are normal for any developing prospect. What cannot be coached is the extraordinary amount of space Jones occupies the moment he steps onto the field.
At 6-foot-2, his lower center of gravity could make him extremely difficult to move when he plays with proper leverage . If he continues improving his conditioning and technique, the same size that made him an internet spectacle could become a legitimate college football weapon.
