Texas Longhorns win unofficial title after close win against Tennessee Volunteers
The No. 1 team in the country once again grinded out a marginal victory against a ranked team.

It wasn’t overly pretty or dominant, but the Texas Longhorns once again found a way to take down a Top 25 team in a tightly contested game. Two weeks after beating No. 1 Ohio State , the now No. 1 Longhorns defeated the No. 14 Tennessee Volunteers on the road on Saturday.
The Longhorns defense was outstanding, racking up 10 total sacks . Star EDGE defender Colin Simmons had a career day, notching a whopping five sacks all on his own. Quarterback Arch Manning did enough to move the offense, and Raleek Brown punched in two touchdowns on the ground.
While a Week 4 victory doesn’t necessarily mean a ton in the grand scheme of things, the Longhorns will at least hold on to their No. 1 ranking for at least one more week. In addition, they earned themselves an unofficial title - at least only in the eyes of some fans .
Texas Longhorns now considered “The Real UT” after win over Tennessee Volunteers, according to some
The official Yahoo Sports social media account on X got Volunteers fans riled up following the game, by claiming that Texas “ claims the title of ‘The Real UT’ ”. That obviously didn’t sit well with Tennessee fans and alumni.
“ LOL The f**k they did. ”
“ Wrong! It never has and never will. This horse was beat dead long ago. It doesn't come down to a single win. ”
“ THREE points won the game, but there is ZERO debate regarding which “UT” was FIRST. ”
For Volunteers fans, there’s simply no debate: Texas can never be UT due to their respective histories . Meanwhile, Longhorns fans are feeling entitled to take that crown.
