DJ Moore health status: Joe Brady is concerned... and so are the Bills' doctors
Buffalo celebrated a 41-31 win over the Lions, but star receiver’s shoulder injury quickly became the biggest concern

The Buffalo Bills had plenty to celebrate after opening the new Highmark Stadium with a 41-31 win over the Detroit Lions , but the mood was tempered by an injury to one of the most important pieces of their offense.
DJ Moore left Thursday night’s game in the second quarter after suffering a shoulder injury while trying to make a catch in the back of the end zone.
Josh Allen targeted Moore from the Detroit six-yard line as Buffalo looked to extend an already commanding lead. Moore landed awkwardly on the play and immediately appeared to be in discomfort.
He was able to get to his feet and walk toward the sideline under his own power, but he later went to the locker room for X-rays and further evaluation. The Bills ruled him out for the remainder of the game.
Afterward, head coach Joe Brady provided little additional information, confirming only that Moore had suffered a shoulder injury.
Bills face anxious wait for full diagnosis
Buffalo ’s lack of an immediate update means Moore ’s status may not become clear until additional testing is completed.
Independent injury analyst Dr. Jesse Morse raised concern on social media that the injury could involve Moore’s collarbone, though that has not been confirmed by the team.
“I have significant concerns that he just broke his collarbone, his left one,” Morse said in a video posted to X.
He added: “If this is a clavicle fracture, usually these undergo surgery, and he's gonna be on a minimum of four weeks, sometimes six… So this would be potentially significant.”
That assessment remains speculation until the Bills release an official diagnosis. Moore didn't record a reception before leaving the game.
Moore made immediate impact in Buffalo
The injury is particularly concerning because of the role Moore was expected to play after arriving in Buffalo during the offseason.
The Bills acquired him from the Chicago Bears in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick, reuniting Moore with Brady after the pair previously worked together in Carolina.
Brady made clear earlier this year that he believed Moore still had the same explosive traits that helped make him one of the NFL’s most productive receivers during his Panthers career.
“I didn’t see a guy that has had any drop-off,” Brady said in March. “I saw a guy that there’s a clear vision for how we’re going to utilize him and get the ball in his hands.”
Moore backed that confidence up immediately in Week 1, catching five passes for 100 yards and a touchdown against Houston.
Buffalo still managed to handle Detroit without him, building a 27-10 halftime lead before closing out the 41-31 victory.
The result moved the Bills to 2-0 and gave them a memorable first regular-season win at their new stadium.
The larger concern now is whether Moore ’s injury turns out to be a short-term setback or something that keeps him out for several weeks.
