Josh Allen had plenty to celebrate during his first game at his new stadium, but the Buffalo Bills quarterback carried a more personal reminder with him as he made his home debut. Allen entered Thursday night's clash with the Detroit Lions fresh from a Week 1 victory over the Houston Texans and with his wife, Hailee Steinfeld , cheering him on from the stands.

And he impressed for his wife as Allen helped the Bills christen their new home with an emphatic 41-31 victory over Detroit , creating for five touchdowns by throwing three and rushing for two. But his heart is always with his family after he and Steinfeld welcomed their first child earlier this year, with their daughter now five months old and the talented quarterback recently revealed that he keeps a special Polaroid of them with him. “They’re the best. So cute,” Allen told GQ of the photo, which has become a good luck charm as he prepares for games and demonstrated that fortune on September 17 as Buffalo scored on each of its first four possessions. That sentimental gesture appeared to provide an appropriate backdrop for a historic night and quickly turned the stadium debut into a celebration with another electric performance. Allen also delivered the first touchdown in the new stadium, scoring on a one-yard plunge with 5:51 remaining in the opening quarter before adding another rushing score later. The 30-year-old finished the night with 248 passing yards on 20-of-31 throwing, while adding 69 yards on the ground to out-score an impressive Lions offense that includes Jared Goff , Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs .

What comes next for Josh Allen and the Bills?

The Bills now have another important home matchup for their prospects in the AFC East ahead after opening the season with consecutive victories over the Lions and the Texans . Buffalo will host their divisional rivals the New England Patriots on September 27 as Allen and Drake Maye prepare to go head-to-head with a potentially vital win on the line when it comes to qualifying for the NFL Playoffs . And the Bills will feel confident after dismantling the Texans ’ ruthless defense and fending off the Lions ’ offensive power, with hopes of finally making it all of the way to the Super Bowl . The hosts had raced into a 28-10 lead at halftime but came under pressure from Dan Campbell ’s side in the second half as Goff finished with 327 passing yards and four touchdowns, whist St. Brown caught nine passes for 142 yards. But Buffalo ultimately sealed the victory through Cook , whose one-yard touchdown run with 2:50 remaining to ice the game and kickstart the winning celebrations at the new Highmark Stadium .
