Ja"Marr Chase set off alarm bells for the Cincinnati Bengals during the second quarter of this Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars . The wide receiver caught a short pass from Joe Burrow and, as he tried to advance with the ball, a defender grabbed him by the facemask and violently twisted his head before another Jacksonville player completed the tackle on the upper part of his body.

Chase remained on the turf for a few moments, although he was able to get up and leave the field without assistance. The receiver went straight to the Bengals' blue medical tent and missed the rest of that offensive series. Minutes later, he was seen walking toward the locker room for further evaluation.

The Bengals confirm that Chase is being evaluated for a possible concussion

'"Ja"Marr Chase is being evaluated for a possible concussion. His return is questionable" they reported from Cincinnati in the first official update on their receiver.'

The way the fall happened is what caused concern since Chase's helmet got caught while his head turned to one side and immediately afterward he took a second hit that caught him off balance. The images show that his legs were left in an unusual and uncomfortable position to take a tackle.

The play ended with a penalty for facemask against Jacksonville . Chase had made three receptions for 27 yards before leaving the game. Cincinnati continued that drive without its top receiver, and Evan McPherson made a field goal that at that moment tied the score at 3-3.

Chase had totaled 18 receptions, 185 yards, and three touchdowns through the first three games of the season. He was coming off his most productive performance of the year against Pittsburgh, with nine catches for 98 yards and a touchdown, before this Sunday’s game at Paycor Stadium.
