From “go make yourself a sandwich” to a dinner invitation: Shilo Sanders ends feud with Mary Kay Cabot

The former Buccaneers safety praised Cabot’s work despite previously accusing her of having an agenda

Shilo Sanders spent much of the spring criticizing veteran Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot , but four months after his “go make a sandwich” remark sparked backlash, his tone has changed considerably.

During a recent Twitch stream, a viewer referenced the controversy by asking whether Cabot was “making sandwiches for the Browns .” Instead of attacking her again, Sanders pushed back and offered praise.

“Nah, bro, Mary Kay is actually been doing good,” Sanders said. “She’s been doing good this offseason on reporting and stuff this whole time. I’m going to take her out to eat whenever I go to Cleveland.”

The comments stand in sharp contrast to April, when Sanders objected to Cabot ’s reporting on the Browns’ quarterback competition between his younger brother, Shedeur Sanders , and Deshaun Watson .

At the time, Cabot had reported that Watson emerged from NFL minicamp as the favorite and said Cleveland should consider declaring him QB1 quickly so the first-team offense could begin building chemistry.

Shilo Sanders responded to an Instagram post about her comments with: “Go make a sandwich Mary.”

Sanders initially doubled down

The remark was widely criticized as misogynistic, but Sanders didn't immediately back away from it. Speaking on Twitch afterward, he accused Cabot of allowing her opinions to overshadow her reporting.

“If you’re gonna be a reporter, be a reporter and report facts,” Sanders said. “Whenever you have your opinion, and your opinion is always something hateful to Shedeur, then it makes it seem like it’s something weird. Like it’s an agenda that you have going on.”

Cabot , meanwhile, addressed the controversy during an appearance on 92.3 The Fan.

“I really do believe that I have been an inspiration for lots of women and young girls to know that you can go out there and do a good job in a man’s world,” Cabot said.

Her career covering the Browns stretches back decades, and she received the Professional Football Writers of America’s Bill Nunn Memorial Award in 2025 for her contribution to football journalism.

Latest comments suggest very different relationship

There was no explicit apology in Sanders ’ latest remarks, but his decision to praise Cabot ’s work and say he wants to take her out to eat represents a clear shift from where the dispute began.

The timing is notable because the quarterback battle that triggered the original argument remains one of Cleveland’s biggest stories.

Shedeur Sanders and Watson have spent the offseason competing for the Browns ’ starting job, keeping every practice report and evaluation under close scrutiny.

Shilo Sanders , however, is now watching from outside the NFL. He signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in 2025 but was released before the final 53-man roster was set.

He later announced he was stepping away from professional football and has since focused on digital content, entertainment and other opportunities.

Months after publicly questioning Cabot ’s credibility, Sanders now appears willing to give her credit. Whether that dinner invitation ever happens remains to be seen, but the rhetoric surrounding their relationship has changed dramatically.
