CeeDee Lamb was on the verge of making history with the Dallas Cowboys ahead of their Week 5 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . The wide receiver was coming off a performance in which he recorded 189 yards and a touchdown on 17 receptions against the Houston Texans , and he was close to becoming just the third player in franchise history to record 500 yards and five touchdowns in the first five games of a season.

However, it appears he will fall short. Lamb had a quiet night against Tampa Bay, recording just two receptions for nine yards before leaving the game with a quadriceps injury.

With Dallas trailing 24-10 , the offense took the field without him, and it was later reported that his return was questionable.

Lamb watched from the sideline as the Cowboys marched 99 yards down the field , capping the drive with a 17-yard touchdown pass to George Pickens to cut the deficit to 24-16 . Dallas attempted a two-point conversion but failed, a play that summed up its difficult night.

Cowboys dealing with more injuries beyond CeeDee Lamb

Injuries have been a constant theme for Dallas throughout the season, and the team suffered a setback just before kickoff : cornerback Joey Porter Jr. , acquired in a trade last week, was ruled out due to an illness.

Other players also dealt with physical issues during the game. Safety Alijah Clark is dealing with a hamstring injury, and his return is questionable.

Pickens was also banged up during the 99-yard drive and went to the sideline to have his shoulder examined.

On the following defensive series, rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham took a hit and briefly left the field to be evaluated. Additionally, starting left tackle Tyler Guyton , who has had a dominant season, was also ruled out with a back injury, with Broderick Jones stepping in to replace him.

Dallas gets one of its key players back for Week 5

The Cowboys received some good news before the game with the return of Tyler Smith . The All-Pro left guard underwent thumb surgery before Week 1 and missed the first four games of the season.

Smith returned to the starting lineup and performed well on the opening offensive drive, opening up running lanes for Javonte Williams . However, after that possession, Dallas had to rely on the passing game because the Buccaneers managed to shut down the ground attack.
