Colin Cowherd rips Cowboys’ Super Bowl hype — And he has a point
Everyone wants to believe the Cowboys are Super Bowl contenders, but Colin Cowherd is pumping the brakes.

The Dallas Cowboys enter the 2026 season hoping to end a more than 30-year drought without winning a Super Bowl, a goal that team owner Jerry Jones has made a top priority. However, not everyone believes Dallas has what it takes to compete for a championship. One of the team’s biggest skeptics is renowned sports analyst Colin Cowherd, who believes the optimism surrounding the Cowboys is misplaced.
“They were 7-9-1 last year and awful against playoff teams… Don't convince yourself that average meal you ate at the restaurant was great because it's better than what you cook at home,” Cowherd said on his show, The Herd with Colin Cowherd .
The Cowboys have not lifted the Lombardi Trophy since the 1995 season. While they have reached the NFL playoffs several times over the past few decades, they have never been able to take the final step and return to the Super Bowl. To make matters worse, Dallas missed the postseason entirely in 2025 , further raising questions about the team’s championship chances this year.
Camden Brown giving Cowboys reason for optimism
Despite the skepticism, the Cowboys have found reasons for optimism during training camp. One of them is wide receiver Camden Brown , who has emerged as one of the team’s biggest surprises this summer. The young receiver, who joined Dallas as an undrafted free agent, has impressed the coaching staff and earned praise from former Cowboys star wide receiver Dez Bryant .
“Shoot, I just feel like I'm making the best of the opportunity whenever it comes my way,” Brown said, per the team. “I'm blessed to even say I'm in his locker room with a bunch of vets that's done it big. I feel like practice was really good, and that's just where it started. I start it from practice, and that's the preparation piece of it. So when I come out here, it slows down for me.”
“I feel like just stacking a week on top of a week, that's how I can make this team and keep doing what I got to do. So really, that's really what it is, for real,” he added.
Brown is fighting to secure a spot on the roster for Week 1 and has already showcased his potential during the preseason. In Dallas’ win over the Seattle Seahawks, he delivered a standout performance by catching two touchdown passes, strengthening his case to make the team.
The Cowboys will wrap up their NFL preseason schedule this Friday when they visit the New Orleans Saints , in their final tune-up before the start of the regular season.
