Connor Wood joins the Cowboys cheerleaders, but his path to the spotlight began with losing a job
The comedian known as Fibula brings his playful energy to the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders

Connor Wood has pom-poms in his hands and a routine to follow. For viewers discovering him alongside the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, he might look like an influencer enjoying an unexpected dance opportunity. For longtime followers, the scene feels familiar: Connor stepping into a new situation and taking everyone along for the experience.
“Can’t take the Texas out of Connor.” Wood was born in Austin, and the reference to his roots accompanies a collaboration the cheerleaders described as a detour from the Dancing with the Stars ballroom to the field. He is currently competing on the show with professional dancer Rylee Arnold.
Before the pom-poms, Connor Wood had to start over
His entertainment career began in a much less glamorous setting. After working in marketing for companies including Bumble and Bird, Wood lost his job during the pandemic. In interviews, he has described posting videos about looking for work, unsuccessful job interviews and the uncertainty surrounding that chapter of his life. People recognized their own experiences in his stories, giving his humor an audience.
Under the name Fibula, he turned those everyday observations into a following and eventually a career. Today, his work spans social media, stand-up comedy and Brooke and Connor Make a Podcast , which he co-hosts with Brooke Averick. His official ABC biography credits him with more than 1.5 million followers across platforms and notes that Adweek named their show its Best Comedy Podcast of 2024.
That success also created a moment his family could share. Wood told PEOPLE that when he returned for a hometown performance, his mother gathered around 30 friends, arranged a party bus and bought tables in the front row. Behind the growing audience was a family showing up to celebrate a career that had taken an unexpected turn.
Now, dancing is introducing him to another audience. His appearance on Dancing with the Stars provides context for the Cowboys cheerleaders collaboration: a comedian accustomed to telling stories is learning to communicate through movement. The squad’s official posts document their time together, although they do not explain who arranged the visit or how the invitation came about.
