Dak Prescott delivers defiant message as Dallas Cowboys star dismisses record obsession
Dak Prescott has broken plenty of records with the Cowboys, but the quarterback says there’s only one thing that will define his legacy.

It is no secret that Dak Prescott is used to breaking records with the Dallas Cowboys, although there remains a never-ending debt when it comes to winning a Super Bowl. Even so, the quarterback is very clear that individual accomplishments come second. Heading into the 2026 season , his main goal is simple: lead the franchise to win important games and compete for a championship once again.
Dak Prescott puts winning ahead of records
Prescott begins his journey toward his 11th season in the NFL as the Cowboys’ leader and arrives with the responsibility of guiding a team looking to move past the disappointment of recent years and return to the playoff race.
Although his career is already filled with historic milestones and individual accolades, the quarterback made it clear that those numbers are not the reason he plays. For Prescott, a true legacy is built through victories in the biggest moments.
“Records have never done it for me or excited me or been what I'm seeking out. Records are meant to be broken and I truly believe that. And so it's just my time to break these records. And yeah, to your point, I want to win the big game and that's my focus. That's what I care about. That's what I'll hang my head on when that happens,” Prescott said.
Cowboys confident in a revamped offense
After an offseason filled with adjustments, Dallas enters the new campaign with high expectations and the belief that its offense can become one of the most dangerous units in the league.
Prescott’s goal is for the Cowboys to have their best season in years, which would mean reaching the NFC Championship Game and, eventually, competing for a spot in the Super Bowl.
In 2025 , Prescott had one of the best seasons of his career, completing 404 passes for 4,552 yards, 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions . He also contributed on the ground with 53 carries for 177 yards and two rushing touchdowns .
Now, Dallas will look to improve on its 7-9-1 record in 2025 and end a two-season playoff drought.
The Cowboys will open the season on the road against the New York Giants in Week 1, with the matchup scheduled for September 13 at 8:20 p.m. ET.
