Dak Prescott fires back at panicking Cowboys Nation after embarrassing Week 1 flop
Dak Prescott had a message for frustrated Cowboys fans after Dallas opened the season with a loss.

D ak Prescott understands the frustration of Dallas Cowboys fans after another difficult start, but the quarterback made it clear he is not about to panic after just one week of the season.
Following the 28-20 loss to the New York Giants in Week 1 , Prescott was asked about the mood of a fan base that fears 2026 could follow the same path as recent seasons, with Dallas missing the playoffs for a second straight year.
His response was a call for calm
“I mean, it’s a long season. I love our fans, but I don’t necessarily feel like I need to speak to that fan. Sorry for them. If they’re a real fan, they’ll stick with it. They’ll trust it. They’ll believe in it. And at the end of the day, it is one game. Yeah, it sucks, it’s the first game.”
The quarterback stressed that the disappointment inside the locker room runs deeper than anything the fans are feeling, because no one expected to open the season with a loss.
“Nobody’s more pissed than myself and these guys in here. We didn’t want to start 0-1. We’re as excited as any fan out there about the offseason and things we’ve done in training camp. So turn that energy and come to the game this Sunday and be as loud as you can. We appreciate it.”
The Cowboys entered the new year with high expectations behind an offense led by Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and Javonte Williams . But that unit fell well short of its potential against New York.
Dallas now has an immediate chance to rewrite the narrative when it faces the Washington Commanders .
One of the more scrutinized players was George Pickens , who endured a rough debut in a Cowboys uniform. The wide receiver finished with just three catches for 28 yards and dropped two key passes . The most costly came in the first half when he was wide open behind the Giants’ secondary on a potential touchdown and failed to haul it in.
Prescott was far from sharp himself. He completed the day with 175 yards, two touchdowns and an interception — numbers that fell short of the lofty expectations surrounding Dallas’ offense.
While a Week 1 loss does not define an entire season, another defeat inside the division could quickly ratchet up the pressure o n a Cowboys team determined to return to the playoff picture.
