The Dallas Cowboys’ dramatic 34-30 comeback against the Houston Texans may have lifted the mood around the franchise, but it hasn’t erased the questions surrounding their Super Bowl ambitions.

At 2-2, Dallas has shown plenty of offensive firepower, but defensive concerns and inconsistent late-game execution remain major talking points.

Amid that uncertainty, Skylar Smith , daughter of Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith , offered a nostalgic message that resonated with fans eager to see the glory days return.

After her father shared a throwback photograph with Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin, she commented, “Bring em back!! We need y’all’s help!!” Her message captured the desire to see the attitude and leadership of Dallas’ championship era return.

Emmitt Smith, Aikman and Irvin formed the core of a Cowboys dynasty that captured three Super Bowl titles.

Smith became the NFL’s all-time leading rusher with 18,355 yards, while Aikman established himself as a Hall of Fame quarterback and Irvin became one of the league’s most dangerous receivers.

Their influence still looms over the franchise decades later.

Three additions could change Dallas’ outlook

If Jerry Jones wants to turn the current roster into a legitimate contender, Dallas’ needs point toward three areas: pass rush, secondary depth and offensive-line reinforcement.

The Cowboys have already addressed the latter two to an extent. Dallas acquired offensive tackle Broderick Jones from Pittsburgh in August, adding experience and flexibility up front.

The team then traded for cornerback Joey Porter Jr. after injuries affected its secondary. Porter arrived with 41 career starts and 31 pass breakups through three seasons.

Still, the pass rush remains an obvious concern. Adding an established edge defender capable of consistently pressuring quarterbacks could give Dallas’ defense another dimension, particularly against elite NFC offenses.

Jones has also made it clear that he isn’t closing the door on further moves. He said the Cowboys are open to deals that could improve the team immediately while also providing value beyond the current season.

“The door is always open to get better. I know that’s almost a cliché. But if the right—I’m never shut down from trying to get something that would really advance the needle,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.

“Especially ones that could do it now and into the future. Again, I said at the start of training camp, I am willing to put some things out there that are for today, lean more for today than three years ago. Well, that’s the future we’re talking about.

“So, I am open. We’re open. We’ve got a trade deadline coming up where you can do some things. We’ll see what happens.”
