George Pickens trade rumors heat up: Could he become Jerry Jones’ next Cowboys victim?
The injuries and the Cowboys’ disappointing season could push Jerry Jones into making unexpected decisions.

The Dallas Cowboys find themselves at a crossroads. With a 2-4 record , the franchise has reached a critical point in the season and must decide whether to push for a turnaround or start moving valuable assets before the trade deadline. One of the biggest names to watch is star wide receiver George Pickens .
Playing under the franchise tag , Pickens has yet to match the explosive production he delivered last season. That decline has sparked speculation that Dallas could entertain trade offers rather than risk losing one of its top offensive weapons without compensation in free agency.
One potential suitor is the Los Angeles Rams , who are searching for help at wide receiver after Davante Adams suffered a hamstring tear. The veteran pass catcher is expected to miss six to 10 weeks, leaving a major hole in Sean McVay ’s high-powered offense.
According to ESPN, Los Angeles plans to explore the receiver market ahead of the November 10 trade deadline. Rams general manager Les Snead has built a reputation for making aggressive moves when he believes they can elevate the roster.
The Rams view George Pickens as a potential game-changing addition
CBS Sports listed Pickens among the top five receivers the Rams should consider pursuing. A potential deal would depend on whether Dallas is willing to move a player who is tied to the team for only one season under the franchise tag.
Pickens was one of the NFL’s most dangerous playmakers in 2025 , recording 93 receptions, 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns while earning Pro Bowl honors and second-team All-Pro recognition. Through six games this season, however, he has totaled 33 catches, 428 yards and one touchdown.
Despite the slower start, his talent remains undeniable. The Rams rank second in the NFL in passing yards per game, and pairing Pickens with Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua could provide the perfect opportunity for him to return to elite form.
The biggest hurdle is the financial side. Los Angeles has limited salary-cap flexibility and not much draft capital to offer. Pickens’ franchise tag carries a value of $27.3 million , with the Rams expected to absorb roughly $18.2 million for the remaining prorated portion of the season.
Cowboys face a major decision: compete or sell
The equation is different in Dallas. While a 2-4 record keeps the Cowboys alive in a struggling NFC East, the franchise must determine whether holding onto Pickens gives them the best chance to compete or whether his trade value is too valuable to ignore.
Owner Jerry Jones has already suggested that Dallas could consider a blockbuster move if the right offer arrives, similar to the deal that sent Micah Parsons away. The next two games could be crucial: another disappointing stretch before the deadline could push the Cowboys toward becoming sellers.
Trading Pickens now would allow Dallas to recover draft capital or add young talent. Keeping him through the end of the season and potentially losing him in free agency would mean receiving nothing in return, making a midseason trade a realistic possibility.
Pickens arrived in Dallas from Pittsburgh before last season and quickly became a key piece alongside CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott . Although his current production has not created the same urgency for a long-term extension, his ability to change games remains obvious.
The recent addition of cornerback Joey Porter Jr. adds another layer to Dallas’ financial decisions. Committing major long-term deals to both players could put additional pressure on the Cowboys’ salary cap.
Other receivers reportedly on the Rams’ radar, including Brian Thomas Jr. and Josh Downs, offer cheaper alternatives, but neither provides the same immediate upside as Pickens.
