Haley Cavinder joined Jake Ferguson and ended up witnessing the same Cowboys nightmare
Jake Ferguson’s wife turned heads with a look made just for him, but the Cowboys’ first game ended far from the celebration she had imagined.

H aley Cavinder didn’t need to say a word to make it clear who she had come to support. For the Dallas Cowboys’ first game of the 2026 season, Jake Ferguson’s wife showed up at MetLife Stadium in a look that had her husband’s name practically everywhere. Everything was set for an NFL afternoon that, at least from the stands, had plenty of reasons to feel like a celebration.
The look that said “Mrs. Fergy” without needing an explanation
The base of the outfit looked simple: a white top with the phrase “I Cowboys” across the front and denim jeans. But once she turned around, the outfit completely changed.
The back of the top featured No. 87 and the last name “FERGUSON,” while the jeans had an even more personal detail: “MRS. Fergy” written across the back, along with a white textured detail near the bottom of the pants.
For Jake Ferguson, the season was starting with something different
The game also carried a particular meaning for Ferguson after everything that had happened off the field over the summer.
The Dallas tight end married Haley on June 20, 2026, in a wedding held in Miami at the Biltmore Hotel . Now, just a few weeks later, the two were sharing another important moment, although this time inside an NFL stadium with Ferguson beginning a new season with the Cowboys.
On the football side, expectations around him were also high. Ferguson was coming off what had been considered his best season and had earned his second Pro Bowl , in addition to signing a contract extension. He had also become one of Dak Prescott’s trusted options, especially near the goal line.
That gave Haley’s presence an extra layer: she wasn’t simply there to watch her husband play. She was there to see him begin another season with the expectation that he could take another step forward.
Dallas entered as the favorite… and that’s when everything started to get complicated
The Cowboys weren’t heading into their matchup against the New York Giants like just any team, either.
Dallas was a three-point favorite before the game , and according to the betting split shared for the matchup, 74% of fan money was backing the Cowboys. On top of that, Dallas had won 11 of its previous 12 season openers against the Giants .
But there was a reason not to get too comfortable.
The Cowboys finished 7-9-1 in 2025, missed the playoffs and finished second in the NFC East . The offense had shown some positive signs, with Prescott leading the NFL in completions with 404 and finishing with 4,552 passing yards, while George Pickens recorded 1,429 receiving yards.
The problem was on the other side of the ball. Dallas’ defense finished as the worst in the NFL in 2025, allowing 30.1 points per game.
So the first test of 2026 came with a pretty clear question: would the offense’s strengths be enough to make up for what had gone wrong the previous year?
The Giants had another idea for this celebration
The answer started to become clear very quickly.
New York opened the scoring with a rushing touchdown from Cam Skattebo , and the Giants found other ways to punish Dallas as the game went on. Quarterback Jaxson Dart finished with 230 yards and three touchdowns, while New York’s defense also made a major play when Jevon Holland intercepted Prescott.
Dallas did manage to get on the scoreboard. Prescott threw touchdowns to CeeDee Lamb and Javonte Williams , but the Cowboys never managed to turn those responses into the control they needed.
In the end, the Giants came away with a 28-20 victory .
And for Jake, it wasn’t the night he expected either
The tight end finished with just two receptions for six yards on two targets, with no touchdown. To put that into perspective, he had a particularly productive game against the Giants the previous season, catching nine passes for 78 yards .
This time, that kind of impact simply wasn’t there.
Now comes the next challenge.
The Cowboys will return home for their next game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas , where they’ll have another opportunity to show whether what happened against New York was simply a bad start or a sign that there are still problems to solve.
